One thing no check can tell you
Whether your phone is carrier-locked. A locked phone installs the eSIM and then refuses to use it, which looks exactly like a broken eSIM. If you bought it on a contract and have never used another operator's SIM in it, ask your carrier to unlock it before you buy.
